EHL Admissions 2020 Update

The current situation with the Coronavirus pandemic is raising a lot of questions for students who wish to start EHL this fall. To help and guide these candidates in their application and decision-making processes, we have prepared this overview of what EHL has implemented in admissions, health and security measures and learning resources for the new academic year.

First of all, we want to reassure everyone that the EHL community is doing well and that all our programs will continue with the same level of quality as before.

In the quiet setting of our closed campuses, we accelerated our digital transformation and created virtual classrooms for all our students. All our courses are available for streaming, with:

  • 3,000 digital learning modules
  • 65 online courses delivered every day
  • Over 6,000 hours of virtual classes
  • 92 faculty members doing mentoring, coaching and live group sessions

EHL’s vision and ambitious digital roadmap for the near future has helped us to rapidly shape out new education models in response to the situation.

Admissions Changes & FAQs

Considering the current situation, EHL has adapted its admission processes to ensure that all candidates have equal opportunities and conditions for acceptance and attendance. Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions.

The deadline to apply for our September 2020 bachelor intake has been postponed to June 1, 2020. However, we will accept applications after that date should the visa process allow. We will permit more flexibility for students who do not require a visa, as we will not close the campus this summer.

For students applying before or on May 30th, we are offering a special summer bootcamp where they will have access to our online course content. They can sharpen their skills before joining us on campus

The whole admission's process is now 100% online, so students and their parents do not have to travel to Lausanne or Singapore for a selection day and we are accelerating the process in order to confirm admission in less than 3 weeks.

We are adapting our 360° profile assessment to accommodate candidates who are facing special situations regarding their final exams and diplomas. These are exceptional circumstances and we are facilitating enrollment for promising students, in the absence of standard academic results.

Support courses in Math and English will be available for students who may require them. These courses may form part of a student’s conditional acceptance, if the rest of the student’s profile matches our requirements. Other students can also access the courses, at their discretion.

The EHL Academy sessions are maintained this summer with new dates and a virtual academy will be available in August for students who cannot travel.

We realize that some parents and sponsors may be facing financial uncertainty and need some support and recovery time. The EHL foundation is offering honorary loans and scholarships to help students in need, as well as providing guidance for financial aid available outside EHL. To support current or accepted students facing financial difficulties because of the current crisis, a special COVID-19 Solidarity Fund has also been put in place to support current and accepted students facing financial difficulties.

How EHL managed this extraordinary situation

EHL announced the closing of its campuses on 13 March 2020 following instructions from the local authorities.

A hotline with 35 IT specialists and student support officers was put in place the same day to address all students' concerns and help them transition to online and remote learning.

Immediately all faculty and supporting staff were equipped with online collaboration tools so they in turn were able to migrate the academic courses to a digital environment.

As our platform was ready to scale up, we leveraged existing virtual classes, and transformed their delivery mode for a broader audience.

According to the Swiss authorities, the campus can re-open by mid-June under certain conditions. Thanks to the campus infrastructure and design, including the digital platforms for eLearning – we are able to put in place all the necessary measures for the protection of our students and staff and deliver the programs smoothly.

Upcoming and future exams will be conducted online with strictest privacy and authenticity controls for a guaranteed quality output.

We are putting in place new technologies to enable contact-less payments, door locks, lift control, remote printing, with more to follow.  We also have all necessary space to welcome new students while maintaining social distancing measures.

Adapting our environment and behavior

Thanks to our large campus and the modern infrastructures, we will be able to strictly adhere to the social distancing and hygiene rules that are required by the Swiss Government. Our campus normally hosts over 3000 people at a time, so we will re-open the campus with a rotation of staff and students. Here are some key points:

  • Preparatory year students will be present on site for all hands-on workshops, so they will not miss out on the immersive hospitality training experience.
  • All EHL courses are now available for streaming
  • Our digital learning platform will allow all other students to be present, in rotation, on campus and study remotely to maintain the quality and rhythm of the curriculum
  • Our food and beverage outlets will be reorganized to allow for hygiene and social distancing measures. Students and visitors will have access to our usual F&B offering.
  • Specific hygiene and sanitation measures will be implemented in both the school and accommodation buildings.
  • Preventative measures will be implemented, such as a Coronacheck app, a health counseling desk (on site and virtual) and a temperature check camera.

EHL is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to put the health and well-being of the EHL community as its utmost priority. We will provide more information in due course and we thank everyone for their trust.
